Amazon Prime Video announced it picked up the rights of a new original, called ‘Narcos vs Zombies,’ set to launch in 2020. The title is pretty much self-explanatory and the show will be made of a blend of genres passing from science fiction, to horror, and action. Season 1 will have eight episodes.
The show was created and written by Nicolas Entel and Miguel Tejada Flores. It is a Mexican production. The show will be directed by Rigoberto Castañeda.
‘Narcos vs Zombies’ tells the story of Alonso Marroquín (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) a Mexican drug lord that escapes a high-security prison with his son Lucas (Nery Arredondo) and hides at Paradiso, a drug rehab building at the American side of the border. At the same time, some volunteer test subjects of a failed military experiment are left for dead near the place and revive as mutant super-zombies. A Mexican SWAT Team that’s pursuing Marroquín and his son also gets infected by the zombies, turning into zombies, too. When alerted by the threat they represent to mankind, the US Army goes on a mission to take them away.
Aside from Peris-Mencheta and Arredondo, the show also stars Fátima Molina, Horacio García Rojas, and Adria Morales. The show is produced by Dynamo and Red Creek Productions.
“We are always looking to bring new kinds of premium content to our Prime members, therefore we are very excited about this new and innovative series that will surely be loved by fans of a variety of genres,” said Javier Szerman, Chief of Amazon Prime Video Mexico Originals in a statement. “The story of Narcos vs Zombies is something that hasn’t been done at this scale in Latin America.”
