Back in 2018, the whole of Long Island had a traumatic experience with the happening of Gilgo Beach murders. Unfortunately, despite the vigorous and intensive search for the serial killer who did it, they were never found.
Netflix is about to premier a new movie set on the North Fork in 2018. Netflix has not said much about its release date, but imdb.com has it listed to debut on the 28th of January at the Sundance Film Festival and will then be premiering for Netflix.
Lost Girls pays tribute to Robert Kolker’s “Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery,” according to produce Anne Carey. Carey, when asked about why they’d film in Southold, “it’s a beautiful location, with a very cooperative community,” she said. “It had the right creative elements.”
“A true-crime story and a strong character piece,” Broadwayworld.com said. The story builds around a mother-and-daughter relationship. The mother being Mari Gilbert, played by Amy Ryan, and the daughter, Shannan. Missing and had been looking for, Shannan was found dead by Gilgo Beach, New York.
Including Amy Ryan, the cast is built around a talented group of people. Dean Winters of Oz, Thomasin McKenzie of Jojo Rabbit, and Gabriel Byrne of the recent War of the Worlds. The movie will be directed by Liz Garbus who directed Nothing Left Unsaid: Gloria Vanderbilt & Anderson Cooper.
The story is wild, and I’m sure we can all agree on that. At first, the search for Shannan Gilbert was in process when searchers found four other prostitutes, with clear strangulation marks and were stuffed in burlap bags. Along Ocean Parkway was Gilbert’s body and since then, 11 bodies were found. Unfortunately, the serial killer still has not been found yet ever since.
Mari Gilbert, the mother of Shannan, was later murdered by Sarra Gilbert, one of her daughters who was suffering from schizophrenia.
No trailers have been released yet, but it’s definitely a watch in my list.
