Disney+ has ordered a dramedy show produced by David E. Kelley, the mastermind behind ‘Big Little Lies,’ and Brad Garret, titled ‘Big Shots’. Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes and will be starred by John Stamos.
“John is absolutely perfect for this role, and we are thrilled that he’ll bring his incredible talent and heart to this project,” said Agnes Chu, SVP Content at Disney+ about Stamos addition to the cast.
The show is based on an original story from Garrett, who produced ‘Everybody Loves Raymond,’ and follows a hothead college basketball coach that gets fired due to his temperament, and takes a coaching job at a first-level, all-girls private high school.
Garrett previously worked with Kelley at CBS’s ‘The Crazy Ones.’ Kelley and Dean Lorey are the screenwriters and executive producers alongside Bill D’Elia, who’ll direct the pilot. Filming will begin next month.
This is not Kelley’s first streaming incursion. You may remember that he was behind Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Goliath,’ which he exited after a confrontation with the show’s star, Billy Bob Thornton.
The announcement comes at a busy time for Kelley, as Season 2 of ‘Big Little Lies,’ ended a short while ago, he’s set to re-team with Nicole Kidman for ‘The Undoing,’ and its working on a ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ CBS reimagination.
Disney+ will launch in a couple of weeks with a robust group of original shows and a library of Pixar, Marvel, Fox, and Disney originals. ‘Big Shots’ has no official release date, but considering filming will start soon, we can hope for an early-2020 release date.
