HBO has revealed the first full trailer of HBO’s ‘The Outsider,’ the latest Stephen King novel adapted for TV.
The 10-episode show will premiere on HBO on January 12. It will follow Detective Ralph Anderson, played by Ben Mendelsohn, while he investigates the gruesome homicide of an 11-year-old child. The authorities make a quick arrest the top suspect (Jason Bateman) but some contradictory evidence suggesting he was in two places at the same time appears.
Although the case seems easy at first, things get complicated, sinister, and maybe even otherworldly, fairly quick.
The first teaser hinted a somewhat typical gruesome murder investigation thriller, but this new trailer lets us see how the show will keep King’s signature horror all the way. It’s clear that Mendelsohn’s investigation will have some frightful and maybe even supernatural turns. Some have said its a True Detective-meets-Castle Rock show and I couldn’t agree more.
Some other cast members are Cynthia Erivo who plays Holly Gibney, a private investigator. She’s joined by Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Julianne Nicholson, Yul Vázquez, Jeremy Bobb, and Marc Menchaca.
Jason Bateman stars alongside Mendelsohn as Terry Maitland and will direct the first two episodes of the series.
The Outsider is the latest of a series of successful King’s adaptations. Castle Rock is likely the best-known one on TV, while the two ‘It’ movies are one of the most recent feature adaptations. Similarly, Apple is producing a ‘Lisey’s Story’ adaptation for its streaming service.
