Kerry Washington, the star in front of the cast of ABC’s “Scandal” is now joining the film adaptation of “The Prom.”
Washington has a tight schedule. She also has “Shadow Force” incoming with “This Is Us” star, Sterling K. Brown, and will join Reese Witherspoon n Hulu’s “Little Fires Everywhere.”
‘The Prom’ is a Netflix adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway stage musical of the Tony-nominated Broadway stage musical. It will be one of the first productions to come from Ryan Murphy’s six-figure exclusivity deal with Netflix. It is primarily based on an original concept of Jack Viertel and the book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin.
The film will follow the story and experiences of an Indiana lesbian student, form the conservative small town of Edgewater, Indiana. She wants to bring her girlfriend to her school’s dance but ends up being banned from attending as a couple, so a bunch of Broadway eccentrics arrive town to help them fight the injustice they face.
Washington joins a top-notch cast wit stars such as s Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Awkwafina, James Corden, Ariana Grande, Keegan-Michael Key, and Andrew Rannells.
Streep plays Dee Dee Allen, a two-time Tony winner, and ‘Carpool Karaoke’ star, James Corden, plays Barr Glickman, a couple of Broadway co-stars who receive bashing criticism from The New York Times for their Eleanor Roosevelt bio-musical, a situation that leads them to try to change their image by championing a social cause.
After the somewhat mixed reviews ‘The Politician’ received, Murphy certainly hopes his second Netflix original project receive a better reception. With such a cast it is almost sure it will.
