Jason Momoa’s last few years have been incredibly successful. After he rose to stardom with a limited yet iconic role in Game of Thrones, he hasn’t stopped. His Aquaman movie, along with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, pretty much saved DC’s film universe. He starred in Netflix’s ‘Frontier’ (which is one of the streamer’s most underrated show and was unfortunately canceled after three seasons) and in Apple TV+’, ‘See’ which was one of the most ambitious proposals of the year.
He’s a wonderful actor and is also set to become an action hero. Back in July, Netflix gave him his first feature film chance to prove both facts (at least if you forget his role in ‘Conan the Barbarian,’ and I think we can all agree on it) with the announcement of the revenge thriller, ‘Sweet Girl.’
The film follows a mourning husband (Momoa) who starts a dangerous journey to avenge the death of his wife and to protect his daughter, the only family he has left.
Around a week ago, most of the show’s cast was announced. However, most of the roles are yet undisclosed. We knew that Isabela Merced is set to play Momoa’s daughter in the film a couple of months ago. The latest announcements of cast additions were Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Raza Jaffrey, Adria Arjona, Justin Bartha, Lex Scott Davis, Michael Raymond-James, Dominic Fumusa, Brian Howe, Nelson Franklin, and Reggie Lee.
Now, on Friday, it was revealed that Marisa Tomei would also join the cast. Tomei is set to play a US Senator. Considering the film is already filming, it doesn’t seem her role will be a large one.
Brian Andrew Mendoza will direct the pic that was written by Gregg Hurwitz, Philip Eisner, and Will Staples. Momoa and Mendoza produce the film alongside Brad Peyton, Jeff Fierson, and Martin Kistler.
The movie is already filming in Pittsburgh, including one scene at the Pittsburgh Pirates stadium, PNC Park, per local reports. It’s not known when the movie will finish filming, but Netflix is likely pointing towards a late 2020 release.”
