Kevin James will lead the cast and serve as executive producer to ‘The Crew’, Netflix’s newest multi-camera comedy show.
The series is set in the NASCAR world with James portraying a crew chief. When the owner of the team retires and passes the team to his daughter, James’ character will find himself in constant conflict with the new crew she brings comprised of mostly tech-savvy millennials that modernize the team.
Jeff Lowell joins James as executive producer with Jeff Sussman, Todd Gardner, and Matt Summers and Tim Clark for NASCAR. Lowell will also serve as writer and creator. He has previously worked with Netflix with ‘The Ranch’ that is about to come to an end.
James has plenty of experience in multi-cam comedy, as he starred in CBS ‘King of Queens’ from 1998 to 2007, and returned recently to CBS for ‘Kevin Can Wait’ with his ‘King of Queens’ co-lead Leah Remini in 2016, but only lasted two seasons. He has appeared in many multiple Netflix originals such as Adam Sandler’s ‘Sandy Wexler’ and ‘True Memoirs of an International Assassin’ but none of them saw as much success as some of James’ memorable characters such as his role in the ‘Mall Cop’ saga, ‘Grown Ups’, and, of course, ‘Hitch’.
The past year he released his first stand-up comedy special in almost two decades, ‘Kevin James: Never Don’t Give Up’, and most recently gave voice to Frankenstein in ‘Hotel Transylvania 3’ which means James is hitting hard to come back to the comedy frontline.
This show comes after Netflix has ended a couple of their previous multi-cam comedy series, namely ‘Fuller House’ and ‘The Ranch’, and renewing ‘Mr. Iglesias’.
